Learning Courses

Recently I'm so into cooking. I simply LOVE FOOD and cooking stuff which i love brings me a sense of satisfaction.

Of course, it's always trial and error, some food I cook so far are not bad, some very good and some not so good. However, when food is wrongly cooked, not only the food goes to waste but time, money and effort goes to waste as well.

It's not a bad idea to take up some cooking lessons and get some tips so that when you try it out yourself next time, the possibility of the dish turning out bad would be lower (hopefully).

This website which I came across: http://learningcourses.com.sg has the LARGEST COLLECTION of courses in Singapore!!!

I was delighted to find that they have MANY kinds of cooking courses to choose from!! From Chinese, Korean, Japanese to Western cuisines and since Christmas is around the corner, they even have Christmas cooking classes available now!

Besides Cooking classes, there are many other courses to look for like Dancing lessons, Photography courses, Professional Diplomas, Computer Classes, Coffee Brewing lessons, Make Up courses, Marketing courses, SEO classes, Golf lessons, Yoga sessions, Photoshop courses, Swimming lessons, Arts classes, Kids Holiday classes any lessons or classes in Singapore are available!

Not only will you find courses here, if you happen to be teaching any course, you can also feature your course here.

I think it's a very convenient, one-stop directory to whatever course you want to take up. For the young or the old, no matter what age, it's never too late to start learning!

Do check out LEARNING COURSES because you will never know, your life might be changed forever!

[Food Review] Three Bistro

Centrally located at Marina Square, directly opposite Suntec City, Three Bistro may be the perfect place for you to have a lunch or dinner plus a nice glass of vino or beer.

Place is spacious and very suitable for parties and events.

Decorated with plush red arm chairs which makes the the whole ambience very comfortable and relaxing. So good as an after work sanctuary to unwind.

Besides the cozy ambience, Three Bistro also serves delectable Italian fusion cuisine in beautiful presentation and houses some very exclusive wines from Bulgaria, Romania and France.

Three Bistro has obtained exclusive distributorship for some of these wines and you wouldn't be able to find them anywhere else in Singapore.

 Classic Mushroom Soup $6

Seared Foie Gras (upon request)

Kurobuta Pork Belly $23

Started off with Classic Mushroom Soup, a freshly blended mix of wild forest mushroom soup which was very well executed. Rich in taste and truly kicked start our palates for the main courses, accompanied with a piece of crispy garlic toast.

Next, we were greeted with Kurobuta Pork Belly, 4 hour poached belly which melted in the mouth instantly with roasted bulgogi and grilled vegetables.

Duck leg confit $25

 Black Cod $27

Angus Beef Burger $23

Beer battered fish & chips $17

Chicken Yakitori $10

Live Vongole $15

Duck Confit was of a decent size served with honey mustard vinaigrette and creamy mashed potatoes. For other mains, Black Cod would be another good choice and you can't go wrong with the classic fish & chips and wholesome home made Angus Beef Burger served with fries, salad and sunny side-up.

Snacks like chicken yakitori and vongole served in tomato or Pesto are also available for something light and hearty.

Three Bistro redefines east meets west with their creativity of western fusion dishes. It is definitely a place to head to relax, enjoy good food and unwind in comfort.

[Food Review] Hansik Korean Family Restaurant

Hansik Korean Restaurant is a restaurant run by a family of Koreans serving home cooked Korean dishes and grilled BBQ meat which are not only pleasing to the palates but also nutritious! When i visited last month, they are still serving ala carte items off their menu but recently, they have changed their menu and introduced unlimited all-you-can-eat buffet.

And the good news is that the cost of the buffet is extremely pocket friendly!!! It's very much worth it to dine here because the quality of food you get is good which is very important to many of us including myself. I am not really a buffet person because I believe in quality rather than quantity. However, when i learnt that Hansik is now serving unlimited buffet, I am delighted!!! Imagine having your favourite Korean dishes over and over again without getting sick of it :)

LUNCH SALAD BAR at only $12++!!!
This includes a variety of authentic Korean dishes like seafood pancake, glass noodles, garden salad, Kimchi stew, seafood soup, potato salad, bean sprouts, Jja Jang Myeon, seasonal fruits, drinks etc.
(It's so cheap! Where to find this kind of deal in Singapore nowadays?! Maybe can find... but nice or not first?)

and next is an even better deal.. top up a few more dollars and you get...
LUNCH (11.30am-3pm) BBQ Buffet at $16++!!
where you get an unlimited variety of meat and sides! Meat includes beef bulgogi, beef short plate, LA galbi, pork belly, pork bulgogi, pork rib, pork collar, chicken bulgogi, spocy chicken bulgogi, bbq prawns, bbq squid, kimchi stew, pancake, jja jang myeon.
(What a steal!!This is definitely super value for money!)

DINNER (5PM-10PM) BBQ Buffet at $22++!!!
If you are not able to catch the cheap deal during lunch, their dinner bbq buffet is also very reasonably priced. I should say way under priced for such quality that you will be getting.

When we first stepped in, we were awed by the spaciousness of this place. Divided into neat cubicles that can sit about 4 people, this place provides adequate privacy for diners to enjoy an intimate meal with family and friends.

Traditional Korean side dishes filled our table almost immediately. I really liked their Kimchi which is not too sourish for my liking.

Along came the lettuce, condiments and drinks. The side dishes are refillable and the staff will generously and happily refill them for you upon request, very impressive service here I must say.

We started by grilling the veggies first as they usually take the longest to cook. Grilled some kimchi too as I personally feel they are crunchier and more flavourful when grilled.

On a side note, we are always impressed by the advanced technology of the Korean Smokeless BBQ non-stick grill pan. Smokeless BBQ already sounds very attractive, it doesn't stink your clothes and the air doesn't get congested. Next, cooking on the non-stick pan is a breeze, so easy to clean too.

And the ever ready staff will be cooking the food for you and serving them on your plates! That's another good thing about dining in Korean restaurants!

We had the Prime Ribeye. Beautifully marbled and very well marinated.

Each bite was tender and juicy and goes perfectly well with onions, garlic, Korean bean paste, some chilli all wrapped up in a crunchy piece of lettuce.

Another recommended meat item would be the Spicy Pork Belly. Well marinated and tastes flavourful with a spicy kick. It is of good thickness and cooks well with some juicy fats!

And the star of the night was Kimchi Pancake!!! Hansik serves one of the BEST Korean pancakes I could ever find in Singapore! The sauce that comes with it brings it up to another level. Crispy and tasty, this was very memorable to me. YOU MUST TRY THIS :)

Because the serving was rather huge for 2 people (including all the BBQ items), the pancakes were actually too much for us to finish but because it's soooo delicious, I heated up the remaining on the grill pan and completely devoured them leaving nothing on the plate :)

Another favourite Korean dish which I must order whenever I visit Korean restaurants is the steamed custard egg. This came piping hot and seasoned with a good flavourful stock.

[Recipe] Salted Egg Pasta

I tried something new today, got the inspiration while scrolling thru Instagram last night. The instructions were not very specific so I tweaked a little bit and added some of my own ingredients.

Basically, salted eggs themselves are already very intense in flavour so not much seasonings will be needed here.

RECIPE FOR SALTED EGG PASTA (SERVES 3-4)

Ingredients:

Pasta of your choice (I used Linguine as I had some left over)
3 salted duck eggs
1 cup cream (I used cooking cream) or milk
Bacon (you can use any other kind of meat or seafood of your choice)
Cherry tomatoes (halved)
3 cloves garlic
Some chili padis (depending on how spicy you want this, may be omitted)
Some butter
Sugar to taste
Curry leaves

Method:

1, Boil pasta till al dente, place aside

2. Cut bacon into bits and fry till brown with butter, place aside.

3. Boil salted eggs, after which, mash them up with cream or milk

4. Fry garlic and curry leaves till fragrant

5. Add cherry tomatoes.

6. Add mashed salted eggs cream mixture

7. Add chili padi and sugar till your desired taste

8. Toss in pasta and mix evenly.

(Sorry, this picture damn ugly! Lol)

9. Bring pasta to plate and scatter the fried bacon bits on top.

10. Serve :)

There you go, let me know what you think :)

[Food Review] Hong Mao Mian Jia 红毛面家 Angmoh Noodle House

Hong Mao Mian Jia aka AngMoh Noodle House is located in Joo Chiat, one of my favourite places in Singapore because it has really good food and also because I grew up in that area. This noodle house, as the name implies specializes in Wanton Noodles and has a very rich cultural heritage which dates back to the 60s.

Hong Mao and AngMoh are terms for Caucasians in Mandarin and Mian Jia means noodle house. One would automatically think that this was opened by a Caucasian or perhaps it serves some kind of western noodles like pasta or such. But this noodle store was actually founded by a Chinese named 'Ao Yang' and his customers started calling this place AngMoh noodles because Mr Ao Yang had golden/blonde hair which resembles a Caucasian.

Recently, the founders of this noodle house has decided to retire and management has changed, however, the standard and goodness of these noodles still remain because the people of the new management are actually big fans of the Wanton Mee from Ang Noodle House since young!

The noodle house is unassuming and frills free, however, nostalgia flooded me while having my meal here, it reminds me so much of my school days. You can still see old school street vendors selling food on the streets too!

Besides the normal soft drinks, AngMoh Noodle house also serves nourishing drinks like Luo Han Guo and Chrysanthemum. Not being a fan of soft drinks and drinks which have too much sweeteners and artificial flavourings, these drinks came in timely for me when I was actually having a slight sore throat at the time of visit.

A set of condiments was placed on every table. Chili, fried pork lard and spring onions. It is not often that you find fried pork lard in your noodles these days and they absolutely boost the flavour in many dishes.

The first dish to arrive was Dumpling Noodles ($4) served with 4 dumplings generously stuffed with fillings and vegetables on a bed of tangy, springy noodles cooked till al dente.

As mentioned above, the dumplings are generously filled with solid fresh prawns, minced meat, black fungus and they certainly do not taste like the normal typical dumplings you usually find at coffee shops.

Signature Wonton Noodles ($3.50). Noodles were as springy as the dumpling noodles and I added even more chili and some pork lard to it. Chili was piquant, spicy but not overwhelming. Accompanied by slices of char siew. This is old school style wanton mee, I like :)

The dried wanton mee came with a bowl of wanton soup. Soup was light and wantons were pretty well cooked. Filled with lots of meat and skin was really silky soft.

Fried Wanton ($3.50). Fillings were seasoned well and they tasted even better when dipped into mayonnaise that came with it.

Chicken Feet ($4). I wasn't a big fan of chicken feet till recently and I was urged to try this. Chicken feet is rich in collagen and has some health benefits due to its gelatinous property and this was cooked in absolutely flavourful gravy. Mushrooms were bursting with intense flavours and chicken feet was tender enough for my liking. It actually tastes very similar to one of the dishes my Grandma used to cook at home. I think this is a traditional Chinese dish and it feels so much like home when having this. 2 thumbs up!!!

Besides the usual wanton and dumpling dishes, AngMoh Noodle House also serves other kinds of dishes like beef brisket, pig shank, curry chicken noodle and Tom Yam Wanton Noodle which I would very much like to try next time :)
