[Food Review] Bella Pasta

Bella Pasta, along with Bella Pizza next door were established by an Italian by the name of Antonio Manetto 7 years ago after managing Da Paolo Chain and having perfecting the pizza recipe back in Italy! Food is served with simplcity yet, well balanced and authentic without much modifications.

Love the tastefully decorated interior which embraces warm materials like wooden tables, chairs, bar counter and stools alongside with cobblestone flooring. Makes me feel like i'm dining right on the streets of Rome!

Happy Hour promotions for food as well as drinks are also available for those who need to chill and unwind after work.

Like most Italian restaurants, warm bread is served on every table.

Kale Salad with red radish and fresh apple ($16). A very refreshing way to kick start the meal. Kale is seldom used in salads, in fact, Kale is rather uncommon in Singapore (it is, however a hit now in the USA) and I am very surprised to find it here at Bella Pasta. Being one of the most healthiest veggies around, this very delicious dish went so well with the crunchy apple slices that came with it.

Calamari Fritti ($20) These are so fresh and succulent. Coated with light batter and together with the flavourful arrabbiata sauce and zesty lime, this is tantalizing enough to increase your hunger and addictive enough to make you want even more.

Carppaccio Di Carne ($22) Paper thin slices of fresh beef served with arugula salad, shaved parmesan cheese and cherry tomatoes. True to its Italian origins, carpaccio is a remarkably simple dish. The beef is fresh and so tender it melts in the mouth instantly.

Caprese ($21) Buffalo mozzarella served with fresh tomatoes and fresh basil leaves. I'm a huge lover of cheese, especially mozzarella, it's not only satisfying, it brings me a huge source of comfort with it's velvety, silky gorgeousness. Another traditional Italian appetizer which is so simple, yet delicious with good quality ingredients.

Our meal is perfected with the company of great wine. Bella Pasta has a great wine list and their manager, who has an absolute knowledge about wines, is specially head hunted from Gordon Ramsey at the Savoury Grill in London which is a 3 Michelin Star restaurant.

Porcini Mushrooms Aglio Olio. Each bite is packed with flavour. The amount of garlic was just right, the mushrooms that were added on were juicy and gave it extra texture, the pasta, done Al Dente. And this dish wasn't drenched in olive oil unlike some of the others.

Rigatoni Alla Siciliana ($23). Short tube pasta with egg plant, basil, parmesan, mozzarella in a rich tomato sauce. This was my FAVOURITE dish of the night! The creamy tomato sauce was extremely robust and aromatic. I savoured every minute of it. So impressive that I can still clearly remember how it tastes like now that i'm typing this.

If you're in the mood for pizza, do not hesitate to order some from their sister company, Bella Pizza which is just next door. Bella pizzas are pretty fantastic as well, I'm quite sure you will not be disappointed.

Torta Al Cioccolato ($8) also known as Chocolate cake. This piece of chocolate cake looks as mouth watering as it is! A great masterpiece by the chef. Soft textures richly moisturized with chocolate fudge, this is heart-stopping for all chocolate lovers.

Tiramisu ($10) Bella Pasta serves one of the better Tiramisus in Singapore. The creamy, lightness and moisture of this cake with the right proportion of liquer in it makes it a delightful enjoyment and the perfect way to end our dinner.

Whether it's a client lunch, family dinner or drinks with friends, Bella Pasta has got everything you need to make it memorable. Thank you for the hospitable and warm service, we truly enjoyed ourselves and will surely be back here again!

[Food Review] Le Halo

Quietly tucked away along Bukit Ho Swee lies a new, small and cozy cafe, Le Halo which also operates as a vintage retail shop.

What impresses me is the interior which is colourful and whimsically decorated with vintage pieces and old school games. Every corner seems to be filled with something that surprises me. When I first stepped in, all I wanted to do was take pictures and there is always something different for me to capture in my pictures every turn I take although it's quite compact in space.

Was amazed by how they overturned the chairs and hung them in mid air to decorate the place and also the usage of vintage sewing machines as tables.

Every table has a box of games and in it, you can find nostalgic child hood games like 5 stones, Pick-Up-Sticks, marbles etc. (Do these ring a bell to you?)

Cutesy accessories for cats are on sale too! A pity I don't own a cat, otherwise I would have bought some of these pretty ribbons.

I got excited seeing these piggy banks! I have an exact same one lying in my room although it's doing nothing except collecting dust now :P

The vibrant colours of this cafe instantly lifted up my mood, it's such a charming and happy place!

And besides the unique decor, Le Halo serves pretty decent food too.

Rose Latte. This looks so sweet and girly! There's a subtle hint of rose in it, a unique creation by the chef. Served with colourful candied biscuits which I always eat when I was a child.

Soursop Sorbet Float with soursop ice-cream. Extremely refreshing and thirst quenching. Slightly sourish and very fizzy.

Then came this absolutely gorgeous piece of Rainbow Kueh Lapis!!! Another colourful masterpiece cleverly created to match the cafe's theme.

Cheesy Tuna. Tuna, mayonnaise, sauteed mushrooms topped with melted cheese on a thick slice of Brioche with lots of greens and other veggies. Presentation was good and the combination of tuna and cheese with bread never fails.

Mushroom Carbonara. This came with a perfectly poached egg on top. As you can see from the pic, egg yolk is runny which makes it very mouth watering. Pasta was creamy enough for my liking and blends very well with the tasty bacon bits that came with it.

Eggy Benny. Unlike many other cafes, the bennys here comes in 2 sets. One with poached egg on toast and ther other with another poached egg on baked bread, served with hollandaise, ham, crispy bacon and pea puree.

Mini Pork Burgers. This is something I would recommend to try if dining here. Their burgers are quite different and rather impressive. Meat patty is juicy and nicely marinated and topped with what seemed like piquant BBQ sauce. The fried bacon that came with it gave it an even better overall taste. Love it to bits!!!!

Le Halo's popular Profiteroles. One was filled with durian and the other with pistachio ice-cream. Pastry was light and this was the perfect way to end the meal.

Thank you Elia for your warm hospitality and your genuine service coupled with the good food and happy ambience of Le Halo would definitely bring us back :)

[Food Review] Scrumptious At The Turf

As the name implies, this cozy restaurant is located along Turf Road, Singapore’s historic horse-racing venue. Concept here is to bring you the healthy, comfort food in the most fun and interesting way so that eating healthy never has to be boring again!

Interior was clean, neat and simple which gave us an instant 'homely' feel when we stepped in. Service was prompt and sincere.

A kid's corner is found at the back of the cafe where kids can have some fun while parents have their meals, making this place a perfect venue for families with children. Kids below 10 years of age get to eat for free too!

Breakfast is available all day long which is a very good thing for people like me who is guilty of waking up late and missing breakfast most of the time.

Italian Style Fish Fingers, seasoned and breaded with flavoured bread crumbs. Fish was tender and soft and served on a plate of fresh greens.

Crispy Mushrooms. However, I don't find them very crispy. Mushrooms were juicy though. A very nice change from the usual portobello mushrooms many other restaurant serve.

\
Cajun Chicken seasoned in special herbs blend. Comes with herbs mash. We love how beautifully this was presented and the veggies that came along with it completed the whole meal.

Succulent Pork Rack smothered in rich brown sauce. By now, you should have noticed that every dish comes with healthy green vegetables which is essential for a balanced diet.

Last but not least, the Ice Cream Sandwich ended our meal. Vanilla ice-cream is wedged between 2 pieces of soft biscuits.

A salad bar is also available at just an additional $5 with any mains ordered.

Will come here and try their healthy breakfasts next time!
